EDLD 5352 Week 2 Post # 1

The Texas Long Range Plan outlines what the students of tomorrow really need to accomplish in order to be successful individuals in life outside the classroom. The plan also details what skills teachers need to in order to teach students those same skills necessary for their success. My focus is on the area of Teaching and Learning. The plan sets parameters and guidelines for new strategies involving curriculum, instruction and assessment to strengthen the education process through the use of 21st century tools for learning. At Roosevelt High School in NEISD we have made some progress in improving our score in this area but more needs to be done. Our gains were in the areas of Content, Area Connections and Online Learning. We lost ground in the area of Technology Applications. The areas of Classroom Use, Frequency and Student Mastery saw no change for our campus. I believe that our campus focus should be on the three lowest scoring sections of Teaching and Learning.
According to data shown on the TEA website our campus ranks above 61.4% of the state by achieving Advanced Tech. Only 0.9% of schools have achieved the Target Tech rating as yet. In comparing our campus with the state average I found that the state average is still in the developing Tech stage as of the ’09-’10 school year.
The Texas Long Range Plan also mirrors the National Educational Technology plan. Both plans call for aggressive changes to the educational system in which technology is leveraged, diverse ideas and innovation in how we teach our children are embraced. The goals in these plans must take into account funding difficulties and a culture shift from the tried and true methods of instruction that have been a part of the system since the 1800’s.
